CSS 2020 | Call for Presentations

We are now accepting three types of presentation proposals for the Children' Spirituality Summit:

  • Papers

  • Workshops

  • Taste & See Sessions

All proposals are due: February 15, 2020

Notification: Final decisions on acceptance/rejection status will be sent by March 15, 2020.

See information below to discern what type of presentation is best for you! 

A PAPER is an oral delivery scheduled for 25-30 minutes, followed by 5-10 minutes of Q&A. You may use visuals such as PowerPoint. The submitter's paper will be scheduled with one other related paper to comprise a full 75-minute paper session. Thus, two papers will be presented in each paper breakout session with each presenter being allotted 35 minutes. We encourage a presentation of the ideas of the paper rather than a reading of the paper.

Conference papers typically address biblical, historical, or theoretical foundations of children's spirituality or share recent research (qualitative or quantitative) regarding spirituality, for example, spiritual practices with children.

 

Paper proposals more likely to be accepted will: 

  1. Clearly define the focus of the paper

  2. Present novel ideas related to children's spirituality in a Christian perspective

  3. Describe the target audience

  4. Provide practical implications for ministry with children today.

WORKSHOPS are interactive sessions, guided by the presenter, that emphasize application in real-life settings. Participants should interact, learn new skills or ways of thinking, and discover ways to apply new knowledge to their own work. Each workshop will be scheduled for the entire 75-minute breakout session.

Workshop proposals more likely to be accepted will describe: 

  1. The specific target audience

  2. The topic and its value to practitioners

  3. A plan for the workshop (including activities)

  4. General goals for the workshop.

"TASTE & SEE" was a new feature of the Children's Spirituality Summit in 2018, and it was a hit! We plan to offer six Taste & See options on Tuesday evening. 

​

A Taste & See presentation is an opportunity to invite participants into a specific practice that nurtures children spiritually. Often, the best way to understand a practice is to step into it rather than to simply talk or read about it. Practices may include prayer, worship, entering the story, responding to the story, etc. Each 20-minute"Taste & See" session will be offered two times Tuesday evening at 6:30 and 7:00 (with a 10-minute break in between sessions). Participants will be able to choose two different "Taste & See" sessions to join.
